Melchor "Mel" Galindo

Melchor "Mel" Galindo 89, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 18, 1935, in Del Rio, Melchor "Mel" was the beloved son of Conrado Galindo Sr. and Maria Sanchez Galindo. A proud 1954 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, Melchor "Mel" served as president of his senior class. As a young man, he was a member of the Road Angels car club, known for assisting stranded motorists-a reflection of his lifelong desire to help others. In 1958, Melchor "Mel" was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in Korea until 1960. After his service, he returned home to Del Rio, where he would go on to lead a remarkable life dedicated to his family, community, and career. Melchor "Mel" was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Briones Galindo. Together they raised four children: Cindy Martinez; Elizabeth (Liza) Ramos and her husband Roland Ramos; Melchor "Mel" Galindo Jr. and his wife Carolina Galindo; and Xavier F. Galindo and his wife Araceli Galindo. He found joy and pride in his grandchildren: Roger, Christopher, and Joshua Molano; Victoria Martinez; Adan, Rene, and Annaliese Ramos; Andrea, Karina, and Leanna Galindo; and Joseph and Aaron Galindo. He was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Juliette Molano and Emma Nell Galindo. Melchor " Mel" was a gifted bass player and a member of Blondie Calderon's original sextet, blending his love of music with his deep cultural roots. He also worked as an insurance agent for over 50 years, building trust and relationships throughout the Del Rio community. A man of faith and service, Melchor "Mel" was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish for over 25 years, quietly helping those in need. His devotion to his Catholic faith and community was a cornerstone of his life. Melchor "Mel" was also an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and sharing stories around the campfire. A charter member of the original Big Friendly Bass Club, he cherished the camaraderie and joy found in nature. He was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, always cheering on his team with passion. He is also survived by his nephews, Dr. Conrado Galindo III and Manuel Galindo. A Visitation will take place Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Amistad Funeral Home, 114 Fletcher Dr. Del Rio, Tx 78840 where a Rosary will take place at 7:00 P.M. A Mass set for Friday, May 9, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 409 W. Garza St. Del Rio, Tx 78840. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery with the United States Army Rendering Full Military Honors. Honorary Pallbearer: Christopher Molano. Pallbearers will be: Roger Molano, Joshua Molano, Adan Ramos, Rene Ramos, Joseph Galindo, Aaron Galindo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Conrado Galindo Jr.; his sister-in-law, Herminia Rizzo Galindo; and his nephew, Ricardo Galindo. Melchor "Mel" Galindo lived a life marked by love, integrity, humility, and generosity. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
