Oralia M Diaz

Oralia “Laya” Diaz passed away peacefully with her family at her side on the morning of November 13, 2025. She was 89 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo F. Diaz. Parents, Luis and Monica Martinez. Siblings; Hernan Martinez, Luis Martinez, Jr., Humberto Martinez, Celia Guzman and Eloisa Rodriguez. Also by her son-in-law, Pete Cardenas, Jr. Laya worked with the SFDRCISD as part of the food services department before retiring after many many years of service. She was able to see many of her grandchildren on a daily basis when they would come greet her while eating at the school cafeteria. She was a devout Catholic, attending mass every week until she was physically unable to do so, and was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Guadalupanas, often singing with the choir during masses. Faith was the cornerstone of all she did, and she succeeded in passing down her faith to her sons, daughter, and grandchildren. During her retirement years, she loved to spend time at Willow Creek with her other retired friends, and was very popular, even being voted Valentine’s “Reina” on a few occasions by her fellow Willow Creek peers. Even in her later years, she always had a smile when greeted by her family that was bright enough to make your day. Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Arturo M. (Cecelia) Diaz, Raul M. (Rosie) Diaz and Leticia Cardenas. Sister, Dora Linda Calvetti. Grandchildren; Pete (Janeth) Cardenas III, Ramon Cardenas, Alyssa C. (Mike) Peña, Raul (Cindy) Diaz Jr. and Sabrina (Basilio) Gutierrez, Jr.. Great-grandchildren; Joel Cardenas, Priscilla Cardenas, Brayden Diaz, Kristabella Diaz, Josiah Gutierrez, Anaiah Gutierrez and Brianna Peña. Numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025, 4:00pm-8:00pm at Amistad Funeral Home, 114 Fletcher Dr., Del Rio, Texas, 78840. Visitation continues Monday, November 17, 2025 from 8:30am to 9:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am, Monday, November 17, 2025 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Val Verde Regional Hospital ICU for taking great care of her all the way to her last breaths, and to all her doctors that treated her like family. We miss her terribly already, but we know she is now eternally at peace with her Lord and Savior.
