Richard Lee Dichtelmiller

Richard Lee (Dick) Dichtelmiller of Del Rio, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the age of 86. Dick was born in lowa City, lowa on January 4, 1938 to Harold Dichtelmiller and Lois (Odell) Dichtelmiller. He was raised in Delaware, lowa and graduated from Delhi High School. At the age of 17, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Korea and Japan. After his service years, he attended Santa Monica City College in Santa Monica, CA. and the University of lowa in lowa City, graduating with his B.S. in Business Administration in 1963. He then attended the University of lowa Law School and the University of Kansas City. He then began his career in insurance with Royal Globe. During his time in Kansas City, Dick met Joan (Joanie)Mudd and they married at Holy Rosary Church in Monroe City, MO. on July 27, 1967. His career then took them to Omaha, St. Louis, and Des Moines as he continued with Royal Globe, attaining his CPCU designation. Dick and Joanie were partners in every sense of the word, as they worked and managed their farms in his home county of Delaware, lowa, moving to the farm in 1976 while continuing their other careers. In 1995, they were able to realize their shared dream of building a home in a warmer climate so they moved to west Texas where Dick thrived on landscaping the desert acreage where their home was built. He and Joanie were able to enjoy nearly thirty years together in Del Rio, Texas returning often to their midwestern roots as well. Dick enjoyed traveling with Joanie all during their married lives and they especially loved entertaining their lowa and Missouri family and friends who visited Texas often. In addition to landscaping and travel, Dick loved science, history, economics, and following politics. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Joanie of the home, cousin David (Donna) Dichtelmiller of Waterloo, IA., sister-in-law Rose Ellen Mudd of Monroe City, MO. and many treasured friends in lowa and Texas. Richard is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts Edna and Dorothy, uncle George, and cousin Herbert of Germany. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Del Rio, Texas On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, 12:00pm with burial at St. Stephen Cemetery, Indian Creek, MO., to be announced later. Joanie and the family would especially like to thank Fr. Jose Otaolaurruchi for blessing Dick and praying with us at the hospital, Cadena Family Practice, Tony and Roni Cadena, Judith Olivarez-Trevino, Dr. Toursarkissian, and the doctors and nurses at Val Verde Regional Medical Center for their compassion, care, and professionalism. Memorials suggested to: -Salvation Army -St. Stephen Cemetery -St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
